"I WAS at a wedding in LA recently, and three women there were wearing my dresses," said Victoria Beckham, from the 8th floor of Milk studios where she was holding appointments for her Victoria by Victoria Beckham line this afternoon. "It wasn’t like they wore them because they knew that I would be there either," she was quick to add. "Even their husbands told me how much they liked their wives in them." Beckham was in good spirits, and justifiably so after staging a unanimously hit collection two days previously. But today, attention turned to her other line, which she confidently explained in every minute detail.
One sorbet colour-blocked pleated dress, she said, comprised 11 colours; retailing at £1,200 it's the priciest piece in the collection but there is plenty for a third less and Beckham was keen to make sure of that (quite a feat too, considering the beautiful fabrics at play here – jacquards, duchess silks, crepe de chine, double-bonded satin – there was no skimping on quality).
If her mainline collection turned younger this spring, this line had grown-up. Her naïve prints of previous seasons were replaced with "kaleidoscope" repeat patterns printed on easy day dresses. For all their diversity (styles ranged from Sixties shifts, to flared skirted numbers to simpler shirt styles), all-out femininity was the common thread. One pleated dress, in crushed raspberry, or rather, what she confidently referred to as "mulberry sorbet", will no doubt have her loyal clientele pre-ordering with department stores. Speaking of retail, watch this space, Beckham revealed she has plans to open her first store – a London flagship – sometime next year.
If you ask me the whole collection is so Victoria Beckham and the models were made up to look like her. Some of the designs are really pretty while some will be very good for pregnant women, especially those who want to hide their baby bumps.
Take a look at few of the pictures from the show.
What do you think guys?
