Robin Givhan: Rick Owens’s Powerful Rejection of Conventional Beauty

Owens had invited the college-age American women (members of four different step teams), to Paris, to help him express his personal aesthetic — one rooted in nontraditional beauty, confidence, and power. They modeled his spring collection, though none of them had the towering height or the reedlike physiques of the typical runway strutter. Despite athletic thighs and dancers’ legs, round middles and curvaceous torsos, they did more than justice to Owens’s free-flowing silhouettes — his bloomerlike shorts, tunics that curved around the bosom like a conch shell, leather vests, and dresses reminiscent of togas. Some women wore head wraps that hung to their shoulders like do-rags. Others had their hair flying free. They wore clunky footwear that looked like a cross between high-top sneakers and Pilgrim’s shoes. But mostly they wore a defiant attitude.
The women came in waves. First those wearing black, then a group in a pale shade of grayish green, followed by women in chocolate brown, and then, at last, the ladies in white. Once entirely assembled on the runway, the group formed a rainbow of moody, earthy hues.
Owens, who grew up in California, was familiar with step shows and had perused performances on YouTube. As an admirer, he knew of their long history within African-American fraternities and sororities. Stepping is competitive group showmanship that blends percussive dance moves with hand claps, foot stomps, and vocal shout-outs all executed with military-like precision and school yard bravado.
“It’s such an American phenomenon,” Owens said backstage after the show. “I was attracted to how gritty it was, it was such a fuck-you to conventional beauty. They were saying, 'We’re beautiful in our own way.'”
Owens worked with the mother-daughter director-choreographers Lauretta Noble and Leeanet Noble. Leeanet began gathering videos of step teams in action and setting up auditions in April. She called in two teams she had worked with in New York, as well as performers in Washington, D.C., in particular,Howard University’s Zeta Phi Beta sorority. They began rehearsals some six months ago in the States and then flew to Paris for the final tweaks.
“We’re here and I still can’t believe,” said Adrianna Cornish, a student at the University of Maryland and a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority.
“It’s something I never would have dreamed of, and I really don’t have the words to describe it,” she said, wiping away tears.
It was impressive to see a sea of mostly African-American women at a time when the lack of diversity in fashion is in the news. But more important than the color of their skin, the women stood out for their individuality. “It’s important to take a minute to talk about working with a lot of different body types,” Owens said. “It was a good exercise for me.”
Indeed, each of these women required her own fitting and an ensemble that worked for her non-sample-size figure. And each woman had her own unique presence on the runway. Some scowled fiercely. Others stared down the audience with an expressionless face. Others turned their head up in an expression of haughty pride. Individually, the women were impressive; collectively, they were formidable. The clothes made an impact, yet they were not the stars of this show. But sometimes, they really don’t have to be"

Miley Cyrus Says Cocaine Is "Gross," "Weed Is the Best Drug on Earth"

The 20-year-old "We Can't Stop" singer, who once said she was "disappointed" in herself for getting caught smoking salvia, now has no problems talking about her recreational drug use. In new outtakes from her recent Rolling Stone interview (which accompanied her topless cover shoot), the ex-child star raves that "weed is the best drug on earth," especially compared to cocaine. MDMA  a.k.a. Molly  also gets a big thumbs up from the former Hannah Montana actress.
"One time I smoked a joint with peyote in it, and I saw a wolf howling at the moon," Cyrus tells Rolling Stone contributing editor Josh Eells. "Hollywood is a coke town, but weed is so much better. And Molly, too. Those are happy drugs social drugs. They make you want to be with friends. You're out in the open. You're not in a bathroom."

She adds of using cocaine: "I really don't like coke. It's so gross and so dark. It's like, what are you, from the '90s? Ew."
Not that the '90s are bad, per se. In fact, Cyrus was inspired by an iconic early '90s artist when she was filming the controversial music video for "Wrecking Ball," in which she appears naked and licks a sledgehammer.

The "Wrecking Ball" songstress also sets the record straight with Rolling Stone on why she's constantly photographed with her tongue hanging out of her mouth. "I just stick my tongue out because I hate smiling in pictures," she explains. "It's so awkward. It looks so cheesy. Now people expect it like, 'Put your tongue out!' It's just easier that way. Taking pictures is so embarrassing."

Beyond that, she says, she wants to send the message that different can be beautiful. "There's something empowering about what I'm doing right now. Especially having 'short hair, don't care.' I think it's empowering for girls," she tells Eells. "Because there's not one thing that defines what beauty is."

There's also not one thing that defines what a good relationship is. Cyrus -- who split from fiance Liam Hemsworth earlier this month, this time presumably for good -- says she learned from her parents, Tish and Billy Ray, that love ebbs and flows over time.
"It's all a back-and-forth. Like, when my parents are good, they're good, and when they're not, they're not, but they always get themselves back on track," she explains of her mom and dad, who have filed for divorce twice in the last three years, only to reconcile both times. "They never put pressure on themselves. And I think that's a better way to be. That's how they've gotten themselves through everything they've been through."
She notes, too, that 24/7 togetherness isn't the same as closeness. "The best thing my parents ever taught me is that you don't have to be attached at the f--king hip. You don't have to be holding hands all the f--king time. Like, my dad can go chill in Nashville for a while, and my mom can stay in L.A., but they're still walking side by side," she says. "And as long as you're on the same path, one can go a little ahead, and one can be a little behind." Cyrus' parents have taught her a lot about being in showbiz, too. Her dad, who shot to fame with the song "Achy Breaky Heart" in 1992, was initially reluctant to let his daughter follow in his footsteps, but he's very supportive of her career now.

"I think if he'd known how it was going to pan out, he would have let me. It's more that he didn't necessarily want me to. It's almost like Toddlers and Tiaras -- getting the little kids all dolled up and putting so much pressure on them to win," she says. "He didn't want me ever to feel...the right word isn't 'pageant-y,' but I don't think he wanted me to feel like I had to be a certain way."
Noting that she didn't even dress herself until she was 16, she continues: "I think my dad wanted me to figure out all that on my own. To go through my awkward stages without people zooming in on every f--king pimple. I think he wanted me to be able to be a kid and have braces and go through my ugly phase without people talking about it. To be able to just hang and live."

wheew!!!!! seriously Miley?

Could this be the end of the "Happily Ever After for Khloe and Lamar?

This is the question on my mind after reading this story on usweekly, could this be the end to their "happily ever after"
A sign of things to come? Khloe Kardashian gave what may be the most telling hint yet that her marriage to Lamar Odom is in trouble when she changed her display name on Twitter from Khloe Kardashian Odom to just Khloe. (Her username, @KhloeKardashian, remains the same.)

Whether the change in name coincides with a change of heart or not remains to be seen, but it does coincide with something else: the couple's fourth wedding anniversary. The 29 year old reality star and the 33 year old athlete married exactly four years ago today, Sept. 27.
Odom, for his part, has denied that he and his wife are on the outs. He even defended her and her family on Twitter this week, after his father, Joe Odom, told Radar Online that his son needed a "clean break" from the Kardashians. you all know the story right?
Kardashian, meanwhile, has yet to comment directly on her problems with the athlete but has been sharing cryptic messages on both Twitter and Instagram for weeks now.

Earlier this month, she posted a selfie captioned
"see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil."
And one day later, she reposted a telling quote from actress Lauren London.
"Sometimes you just gotta be your own hero and save your own little heart,"
the text read. "Because sometimes, the people you can't imagine living without, can actually live without you."
Hmmmmmm! is it just me or anyone else suspect the fire on the mountain?

kanye west in tweet war with Jimmy Kimmel

Ok so Kanye West is very pissed and wasn't too thrilled about Jimmy Kimmel mocking him on his late-night talk show, and he attempt to let the whole wide world know, by taking it to twitter. This, of course, led to Kimmel reacting to the Twitter war on his Thursday night show.
It all started Wednesday when Kimmel broadcast a Kid Re-Kreation sketch  featuring young children reciting quotes from West's recent BBC interview, in which the rapper declared himself the "No. 1 rock star on the planet," as well as a few more, shall we say, immodest declarations.
On Thursday's show, Kimmel revealed that the Yeezus artist had called him . "He told me I had two choices. One was to apologize publicly, and that was really the only choice," the host recalled to a laughing audience. "The other choice he gave is that my life is going to be much better if I apologize."
watch.....

As is evident, the 36-year-old rapper did not enjoy Kimmel's parody, and on Thursday, Sept. 26, he lashed out at the Jimmy Kimmel Live! host in a series of tweets,
Take a look at the TWEET WAR!!!!
In addition to going on air, Kimmel, 45, also reacted to West's angry messages via Twitter, writing:
Who's side are you on: Kanye or Jimmy's? Stand by your man, below.

If you ask me, am having super fun with this.hehehehe

Tonto Dike's outfit HIT OR MISS?

Social media drama queen Tonto Dikeh *Poko babe* who  is not the usual red carpet person, but was spotted on the red carpet this week wearing this really nice shirt and spike shoes (am guessing its LV)with flawless makeup.

She storm the red carpet of the Lagos premiere of Rukky Sanda‘s Keeping My Man at the Wheatbaker Hotel in Ikoyi, Lagos,  the movie star/musician arrived on the red carpet in a chic orange shirt dress.
The button-up long sleeve dress features a sequined collar and an open back which Tonto employed to show-off her tattoo.

Her stylist Jeremiah Ogbodo, accessorized with gold earrings, a gold ring and spiked heels. She completed the look with pink lipstick and a braided top knot.
What really caught my attention about this whole look, is her flawless makeup, the neat liners, the lip, her smile and the those gorgeous shoes.
About the shirt and tattoo, I leave you guys to be the judge.

Could Robert Pattison be in love already?

Robert Pattinson has been linked to a mystery brunette woman after the pair attended a pal's birthday party together on Saturday.... Kristen is history already? Who's that lady?  He brought the lady friend with him to a pal Shoshana Bush's birthday party on Saturday, Sept. 21, and sources tell us that the pair seemed to be very much into each other , though the famously private actor held off on PDA throughout most of the night.
An eyewitness tells Us. "Rob was there with his new girlfriend. I don't know her name."
According to the source, the new couple wasn't "making out," though they did hold hands and dance together at the poolside bash.
Another source adds that the as-yet-unidentified woman was "heard calling him babe."
"There were like 40 people at the party, it was intimate, and Rob was next to her the entire time no matter where he was," the first source said, adding that the usually stoic actor looked "really happy."

I wish them well

You are less than smart.................... Wendy Williams tell Chris Brown

Ok so the controversial +Chris Brown  is back in another drama, this time around with +Wendy Williams  hehehehe bad move Chris.
Last week Jet Magazine released a quote from Chris Brown's interview where Chris questioned why Jay Z gets a pass for stabbing someone and selling drugs but he doesn't get any for beating Rihanna.
You mess with who you ain't suppose to mess with, I will say and violence against women is a serious global issue.

Talk show host Wendy Williams has slammed Chris for trying to shift the blame for his troubles. On the Hot Topics segment of her show, Wendy went in telling Chris,
"You were less than smart in trying to blame Jay Z. You need to blame yourself young man. You are a woman-beater, you’re disrespectful, you threw a chair out of the window at Good Morning America. You look like a junkie. Now that’s what I’m going to say. You got those nasty tattoos. You’re way too skinny. You don’t seem to have respect for much at all. You beat the stew out of Rihanna.”
And Riri 1st love reply thus, hehehehe

Sofia Vergara's Emmys Jewelry Worth $7 Milliion!

you all remember this adorable look at the 2013 Emmy Awards on Sept. 22 in L.A right? Oh, what a night with great people, glamour and exquisite on the red carpet! I just could not forget the blinks and especially boobs and the stunning dress accessorized with a beautiful smile from Sofia Vergara  The Modern Family actress wowed in a red, cleavage-enhancing sleeveless Vera Wang mermaid gown that hugged her curves, but it wasn't her natural assets that stole the spotlight , it was the $7 million-worth of jewelry she had on!

Statement-making ruby, sapphire, and Colombian emerald earrings (a nod to her native country) hung from her lobes. On her fingers were a 21-carat Asscher-cut diamond ring and a 40-carat Colombian emerald and rose-cut diamond ring. The tremendous bling was all courtesy of celeb-beloved jeweler Lorraine Schwartz. Take a close look...Sofia Vergara at the Emmy Awards on September 22, 2013

Indeed, it was a dazzling evening for the actress, 41, who was recently named the highest-paid actress by Forbes for the second year in a row. Modern Family won best comedy, and it looked like Vergara had an amazing time celebrating with her fiance Nick Loeb. Evidence of her revelry was documented on her Instagram account, where she posted a plethora of photos from the night's festivities -- including a hilarious shot of her twerking. "Miley Cyrus this is where the twerk was invented. Colombia!" she captioned the image.

Lamar Odom slam father on twitter

Ealier this week JOe Odom the father to the Lakers forward player Lamr Odom spoke with rather online and said this.......
"Joe said: “Someone’s got to speak out, I’ve got to do something about this. It’s simple. They brought him down. He would be better off without them. Let him go and get his life together. I think the best thing for him would be to have a clean break, divorce Khloe and as a single man try and get his life back together. The mother has been talking a lot of trash about my son, saying he’s on drugs and stuff like that. She’s got something against my son, something against my family. Kris Jenner is very negative. She’s an evil b*tch. She doesn’t care about Lamar, she just cares about their image and money.”
“I blame Kris in particular, she’s been through a lot of stuff herself. She’s no Cinderella. I can’t really say if the Kardashians are doing drugs, but my son would never use hard drugs. I can’t pinpoint right now who’s giving it him, but I’m going to investigate. The Kardashians haven’t been a good influence on my son. They don’t give a f*ck about my son. It’s more about the damage they do to the Kardashian brand. They brought him down. He’d be better off without them. Let him go, get his life together.”

Apparently the basketball superstar is not happy with the father's view of the Kardeshians, because Lamar took to twitter to slam his father

"Won't continue 2 speak on this but I have got 2 let this out real quick," the impassioned former NBA player wrote. "I have let this man and many other get away with a lot of sh-t. He wasn't there 2 raise me. He was absent ALL of my life due to his own demons. My mother and grandmother raised me. Queens raised me."
"That man wasn't even invited to my wedding," he continued. "He has never met my mother in law and some of my other family. How can a man who has NOT once called me to check on my well being have the nerve to talk so recklessly about his own 'son.' He is my downfall!"
He disrespecting the ONLY FAMILY that has loved me without expecting anything in return, "They are the ONLY ones that have been here consistently 4 me during this dark time. Only person 2 blame is myself. Say what you want about me but leave the ones who have done nothing but protect and love me out of this!" he continued. "This goes to out to everyone!"
